LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced that the promotion will return to Brazil with the Light-Heavyweight Championship in January. LFA 175 will be the fifth LFA event to be held on a Saturday and it will be the fourteenth LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. This will also be the ninth LFA event to take place in the state of São Paulo, which is Brazil’s most populous state. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco.

LFA 175: Lopes vs. Brigagão, presented by BetOnline, takes place Saturday, January 27th at the Ginásio do Polvilho in Cajamar, São Paulo, Brazil.

The main event will feature a light-heavyweight title fight when champion Bruno “Brunão” Lopes defends his title against top contender Marcos “Ironside” Brigagão. The entire main card will be available worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS® at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

“We are excited to bring the Light-Heavyweight Championship to Brazil at LFA 175,” stated Soares. “The main event will feature the first title defense of the LFA light-heavyweight champion Bruno Lopes. He will face decorated prospect Marcos Brigagão. Lopes is looking to become the first 205-pound champion in LFA history to successfully defend his title, while Brigagão looks to show the hype is real after defeating a tough UFC veteran in his most recent bout. This is the perfect title fight to kick off our busy international schedule in 2024!”

Lopes (11-1) is a proud champion from Cotia, which is located just west of Brazil’s most populated city of São Paulo in the state of São Paulo. He represents both the China Team and Thiago Miranda Team located in his home state. It is there where he picked up a win in his LFA debut by submitting Mailton Azevedo at LFA 136. The submission earned him a shot at the title when the promotion traveled to Recife at LFA 143. Lopes made quick work of local Pernambucano standout Willyanedson Paiva to capture LFA gold. The win earned Lopes an invitation to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series this past summer, but he was not successful in earning a UFC contract. The 30-year-old will now look to protect the title that earned him that opportunity as he jumped at the chance to defend his title and headline the first LFA event in his country in 2024.

Brigagão (17-6) is a decorated prospect from Tapejara, Paraná, Brazil, which is located in the South Region of Brazil. The proud Paranaense has since relocated to Niterói, which is located across the Guanabara Bay facing the city of Rio de Janeiro. The PRVT product has compiled an impressive record with 17 wins in just 6 and half years competing in the sport. The most notable win on his résumé came against former LFA title challenger and Dana White’s Contender Series alum Acácio dos Santos via TKO in September 2021. Now the man known as “Ironside” takes aim at LFA gold, as he just like the champion, will be returning home to Brazil after most recently competing in Las Vegas. The 27-year-old won that fight just 10 days after Lopes competed on Dana White’s Contender Series and now looks to take champ’s strap in his first bout of 2024.
