Las Vegas, NV — LFA announced today an update to the main event of LFA 233, taking place Friday, May 22nd at the Seneca Allegany Event Center in Salamanca, New York.
The event will still feature a pair of title fights, headlined by the LFA Welterweight Championship. Reigning champion Jonathan Piersma (11-3) will now defend his title against Brazilian standout Diego Bianchini (10-2), who steps in as a replacement for Martin Camilo following his withdrawal due to injury.
Piersma, who represents upstate New York, has emerged as one of the top welterweights in the region, defending his home turf once again as champion. Known for his durability and well-rounded game, he now faces a dangerous late replacement with momentum on his side.
Bianchini brings valuable experience to the matchup as a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter and a proven competitor inside the LFA cage. The Brazilian is coming off an impressive submission victory at LFA 229 in March and now steps into the biggest opportunity of his career with a chance to capture LFA gold on short notice.
The co-main event remains unchanged and will feature the LFA Lightweight Championship, as top East Coast contender Robert Varricchio (8-1) challenges reigning champion Richie Miranda (12-1).
Miranda has established himself as one of the most dominant lightweights in the promotion, combining experience, composure, and finishing ability. He now looks to defend his title against a hungry challenger.
Varricchio enters the bout with confidence and momentum, seeking to dethrone the champion and claim his first LFA title in what promises to be a high-level lightweight clash.
LFA 233: Piersma vs. Bianchini, presented by Monster Energy, takes place Friday, May 22nd at the Seneca Allegany Event Center in Salamanca, New York. Tickets are available now at Ticketmaster.com
The main card will air live in the United States on VICE TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT, with a Spanish-language simulcast on ESPN Deportes. Internationally, the event will be available via ESPN across Latin America, including Mexico, Brazil, and the Caribbean. In addition, the main card will air live on Fight Club throughout Russia and the CIS countries—as well as worldwide on the LFA Fight Network™ on YouTube.
