SALAMANCA, NEW YORK — On Thursday, May 21st, LFA hosted the official weigh-in for LFA 233: Piersma vs. Bianchini from the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino in Salamanca, New York.

In the main event, reigning LFA Welterweight Champion Jonathan Piersma (11-3) was scheduled to defend his title against Brazilian standout Diego Bianchini (10-2). However, Piersma failed to make championship weight and has forfeited the LFA Welterweight Title. As a result, Friday’s main event will proceed with the championship available only to challenger Diego Bianchini. Should Bianchini win, he will become the new LFA Welterweight Champion.

In the co-main event, reigning LFA Lightweight Champion Richie Miranda (12-1) defends his title against top East Coast contender Robert Varricchio (8-1) for the LFA Lightweight Championship.

LFA 233, presented by Monster Energy, will feature veteran MMA broadcaster Ron Kruck, alongside UFC Hall of Famer and former Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans on commentary.

The main card will air live in the United States on VICE TV at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT, with a Spanish-language simulcast on ESPN Deportes. Internationally, the event will be available via ESPN across Latin America, including Mexico, Brazil, and the Caribbean. In addition, the main card will air live on Fight Club throughout Russia and the CIS countries—as well as worldwide on the LFA Fight Network™ on YouTube.

All athletes successfully made weight with the exception of Jonathan Piersma, Soufiane Kabil, Zaki Mohsin, and Easton Edmond, whose bouts will proceed as scheduled following the appropriate penalties. The preliminary bout between Jack Sheehan and Xavier Zeruth was cancelled this morning due to Sheehan’s complications with his weight cut. LFA 233 is currently scheduled to proceed with nine bouts, including two championship bouts at the top of the card.
