LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced today that the promotion will return to Cajamar, São Paulo, Brazil on Friday, May 29th, for another championship doubleheader at the Ginásio do Polvilho. This will be the 8th LFA event produced in Cajamar to date, and is organized in support of the City Hall of Cajamar and the Cajamar Social Solidarity Fund.
LFA 234: FERNANDO vs. SOARES will feature two title fights, headlined by the LFA Light-Heavyweight World Championship, as reigning champion Lucas Fernando (12-3) defends his title against top contender Leon Soares (10-3).
Lucas Fernando enters the bout as one of the most accomplished Brazilian champions currently competing in the LFA. The former LFA middleweight champion successfully moved up in weight and captured the light-heavyweight title, further cementing his reputation as one of the promotion’s premier talents. Known for his aggressive style, durability, and championship experience, Fernando now looks to continue his reign in front of his home country fans.
Standing across from him will be Leon Soares, who receives his second opportunity to compete for LFA gold. The Brazilian challenger has remained one of the division’s top contenders and now returns with another chance to capture the championship after continuing to build momentum inside the LFA cage.
The co-main event will feature the LFA Interim Lightweight World Championship, as undefeated interim champion Jefferson “Todynho” Nascimento (12-0) defends his title against dangerous Uruguayan contender Gian Maurente (8-1).
Nascimento has quickly emerged as one of Brazil’s top lightweight prospects with his undefeated record, relentless pace, and finishing ability. After capturing interim gold, “Todynho” now looks to strengthen his position atop the division with another high-profile victory.
Maurente enters the bout representing Uruguay as one of the top rising talents in South American MMA. With an aggressive style and momentum on his side, the Uruguayan contender now steps into the biggest opportunity of his career with the chance to leave Brazil as champion.
“Brazil has always been one of the strongest regions for MMA talent, and we are excited to return to Cajamar with two title fights,” stated Soares. “Lucas Fernando has already proven himself as a two-division champion inside the LFA, while Leon Soares has earned another opportunity to compete for gold. In the co-main event, Jefferson Nascimento and Gian Maurente bring another great Brazil versus Uruguay matchup with interim lightweight gold on the line.”
