Description:

Do you know how GTA is an 'open world' style game? Bullsh*t. New York city? Try exploring an area the size of New York State. I introduce to you Dwarf Fortress. First, I will state that Dwarf Fortress is not for everyone. If you can let your imagination replace the sybolic graphics (personally, I think having representative graphics really adds to this particular game), and if you are patient enough with the interface you will be handsomely rewarded. Dwarf Fortress is one hell of an indie gem.

Here is a quote from somethingAweful: "Dwarf Fortress is one of the most open-ended games of all time. How many games do you know where you can watch a goblin try to steal a finely crafted crown, only to have his left kidney torn out by a wardog while a wrestler tears his arms off?"

I'll describe it as a bit like the sims meets dungeons and dragons x 10,000... seriously... The area of the game is more or less the size of a state and have it generate up to a 10,000 year history before you play - no joke. The depth of gameplay is beyond HUGE... you can carve the walls of your cave, plan for winter, set up a dinner table, or a burial ground, it snows, it rains, flowers bloom, you can hunt and be hunted... breed animals, and on and on. This game blew me away. You might click THIS link to get an idea for how deep this game is. If you have patience and imagination you might develop a debilitating addiction to Dwarf Fortress.
